IT projects fail to deliver

According to the Ontario Auditor General … “In Ontario today, approximately 40 percent [of projects] still fall short in some way” Ontario Special Task Force, July 2005

Companies are also facing increasing complexity in managing external service providers, Gartner says. “While a single contract with a single consultant may be easiest to manage, often a single consultant can't supply all the expertise a company needs for a sizable information systems project.”

Many organisations struggle with how to implement the concept of 'knowledge management' (KM). Some are using websites for storage and retrieval of valuable corporate knowledge, but this has created new challenges. Organisations still do not know what 'knowledge' they have, where it resides, who wants it or what it is worth to them or to their stakeholders. Therefore they are unable to effectively deliver the Intellectual Property they do possess through the Internet Protocol.

When they leave – capturing what the domain expert knows can become an essential requirement for effective knowledge management in many organisations. Here a few tips on how to go about it.
